1. The Spirit of the Stairway

She is Dream's elder sister, the one who will end the Endless; the one who closes up the Universe as Destiny reads the final words of his book. She is Death, and she's heading to New York -- not as the all-powerful Endless, but as a mortal for a day!

2. A Night to Remember

Death --also known as Didi-- and Sexton embark on the hunt for Mad Hettie's heart, and are promptly sidetracked by a bit of nightlife at the local club, while the nightmarish plan of the Eremite begins to unfold.

3. The High Cost of Living

Mad Hettie releases Death and Sexton from the locked room. Death buys a new Ankh from a street vendor with her last ten dollars. She gives two pennies and a Russian doll to Sexton. Death dies. The blind old man demands the two pennies from Sexton and places them on Death's eyes, then leaves. Mad Hettie retrieves the Russian doll Sexton had left with a neighbor, and removes her heart from inside.

4. Things You Just Do When You're Bored

Lovers Hazel and Foxglove reach a pivotal crossroads in their life and relationship. But when Death becomes involved with several souls dearest to Foxglove, Fox must discover whether her love is strong enough to follow Hazel into Death's realm, and if either of them will return alive.

5. Imaginary Solutions

You're Foxglove, a rich and famous rock star: and today, your manager died, your girlfriend disappeared and you learn you were about to get outed as a lesbian by a glossy magazine. And if you're going to survive, you're going to have to journey into the realm of Death.

6. The Time of Your Life

Foxglove and her friends enter Death's realm, where Hazel learns the secret of her young son Alvie. Who will live and who will die is decided, and Death herself reveals the significance of The Time of Your Life.
