Aired: 4/18/2006

Chronicling the construction of the Oresund Bridge, a 10-mile span linking Denmark and Sweden that opened to auto and rail traffic in 2000. The link--from Copenhagen to Malmö, Sweden's third-largest city--includes a tunnel and an artificial island, and took five years to construct.

2. Impossible Bridges: Greece

Aired: 5/2/2006

Charting the construction of Greece's Rio–Antirrio Bridge, a nearly 2-mile span over the Gulf of Corinth that also crosses a seismic fault line.

3. Impossible Bridges: China

Aired: 7/11/2006

Chronicling the construction of three Chinese bridges, including the world's longest arch and cable-stayed bridges. Shanghai's Lupu is the arch bridge, which opened in 2003 and crosses the Huangpu River. The cable-stayed Sutong Bridge, which is still under construction, will span the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province. Also spanning the Yangtze is the Runyang Bridge, the third longest suspension bridge in the world, which opened in 2005. The Runyang links the cities of Yangzhou and Zhenjiang.
